Day Out with 6A Girls

Had an afternoon lunch at Raffles City Soup Spoon with my long-time-have-not-seen 6A girls. Luckily my atrocious habit of arriving late pales in comparison to Amelia's: I arrived 1.5 hours late, and Amelia another 1 hour later! Hyuk! They were grimacing upon seeing my same ol' hairstyle.

It was a great afternoon catching up with one another and gossipping about our ex-classmates, and for a moment, I felt quite sorry for always missing out on their outings. Even got to trade horror stories of teaching with Yuzhen, a beginning teacher, and Yufang, who had just finished practicum. The others (seemingly ostracized) could only listen in silence as the three of us rattled on and on about ADHD kids, exam papers, overseas fieldtrips and manipulative HODs.

Decided to make this day a wonderful memory by taking pictures outside the toilet at Citilink.

Me, Amelia, Jingna, Shirley and Yufang

Yuzhen, me, Amelia, Jingna, Shirley, Yufang and Junting!

Then the 7 of us became a nuisance by forming a ring, with handphones in our hands, starting a 20-minute long Bluetooth exchange of merely 3 pictures, and effectively obstructing people's path to the toilet.

Till our next outing again!

Fun Social Studies Lesson

Social Studies was fun today, because we were tasked to create games that extol the 6 National Education values or encompass any aspect of Singapore. We created a board game a la Game of Life, where players move along in life (every space on the board represents one year) and experience significant events like taking the 'O' Levels, buying a new house, getting retrenched and contracting cancer. The goal of the game is to reach 80 years old and claim the long-awaited CPF payouts. Of course, upon landing on a significant life event, players will have to draw cards and answer boring questions about Singapore and its policies. This game was created as a satirical mockery of Singapore's law and policies (Retrieve my CPF savings at 80 years old? By then I would have been too weak to go mountain-climbing, and I can jolly well spend those money on buying 4D, dentures and Yoko Yoko).

Our board game, with a boring title: Life in Singapore

I hope Dr Sim does not detect that subtle satire here!

Night Out with Daphne and Peiying

Finally got the much-needed chance to carouse the night away at dbl 0 after so many hectic and stressful weeks in school. Although it was not ladies' night, we did not mind because booze there is cheap!

Peiying and me outside dbl 0 (my cheery pose inspired by Yong Lun)

It was only 11pm, and the crowd was so pathetically sparse that we could see the floor ahead of us. Some unheard-of hip hop tunes were playing, but the dance floor was vacant except for two poseurs dancing away. Peiying had a disturbing stereotype about dbl 0 always being dominated by BLACK society members, and after many furtive glances, I started to think she was right. It was not like that in the past.

Peiying loves to take pictures wherever she goes!

Played silly finger games and guessing games while guzzling housepours, shots and beer. We were giggling hysterically and I felt myself slowly slipping into a trance-like state. Just then, Shakira's 'Hips Don't Lie' came on and we zipped to the dance floor in exhilaration. Just had to shake my hips!

Pumping alcohol is the agenda for the night

Ironically, the more I danced, the more inebriated I became, to the extent that when I was whisked away by someone to take a picture, all I remembered was a bright flash and a boy who showed me the picture we took (but I didn't know what I was seeing). After a while, we went to catch a breather at the bar, and some guy chatted us up. According to Daphne (the next day), I actually introduced myself as Daphne, and when I heard Nelly Furtado's 'Promiscuous' playing, I shrieked and immediately dragged the two of them back to the dance floor, leaving the poor boy wondering about my outburst and our sudden departure. Again, I had no recollection about what we talked about and had to have Daphne to remind me.

More beer and we flopped down on a couch nearby. According to Daphne, I had the audacity to get rid of the 'Reserved' sign by throwing it under the couch, and I could not believe that I actually did that. Nevertheless, we were still chased away from the 'reserved' couch and thereafter, it was back to the dance floor.

Frolicking on the couch (I didn't even know Daphne was pasting her face against mine)

More groovy songs, more dancing, until the lights came on. The DJ stopped the music, and announced for us to cooperate with the police. We groaned and watched the policemen wearing windbreakers with 'POLICE' emblazoned on their backs walking around and scrutinizing every patron there. As the lights came on, I looked around and realised ... we were indeed surrounded by BLACK society members.

We were getting impatient from waiting for the lights to be off, and we (as well as many others) decided to leave. It was such a spoiler. The only thing I could remember was puking into the tall grasses every few steps along the dark eerie path that led to home.

Eerie Cockroach Nymph

This is seriously one of the grossest thing I have ever seen, but who gets to see newborn cockroach nymphs often anyway?

It looked so bleached and translucent

With an ant crawling on its back!

Fieldtrip to Bukit Timah Nature Reserve

4th (and last) fieldtrip to Bukit Timah Nature Reserve, and conducted by the group of 4 bitches. The vindictive us wanted to take revenge for the injustice we suffered last week, and we intended to walk reeeaaaally slowly to spite them.

On our way there, it started to drizzle and we decided that was the best revenge because it would mean cancelling the fieldtrip and early dismissal. Nevertheless, we still headed towards the destination and congregated at the Visitor Centre.

Outside the visitor centre

Despite the drizzle, we still embarked on the trail to investigate characteristics of the equatorial rainforest. While measuring the buttress roots of a huge tree, it started to rain heavily and we dashed back to the Visitor Centre. For the rest of the fieldtrip, it was the explore-the-exhibits-and-copy-down-notes routine.

After the group discussion and evaluation, the rain stopped and our tutor took us along another trail leading to a quarry. Along the way, we encountered different plant species, a special bird (one Geog mate immediately fished out his binoculars a la going on bird-watching), squirrels and fresh monkey poo. The air after the rain was crisp and refreshing.

Found the energy to go St James with Ah Tan! We were so in love with Powerhouse! Solid dance tunes coupled with countless shots resulted in a night of vigorous dancing and grinning. All was clean ol' fun ... until we dared each other to pinch / tug / pull the pants of one exuberant boy dancing on the platform. Surprisingly, he was more pleased than offended.

Intoxicated with euphoria and vodka for the night
