Hong Kong 2010 Day 7

Made our way to 鴨仔坑釣魚場 again for some more fishing since we had nothing to do for the day. Breakfast was century egg porridge with dough fritters.

Man, their dough fritters were huge!

Nice weather for the outdoors

Had dinner in Lai Chi Kok.

Deep-fried calamari with garlic, chilli and spices

Some girl brought her two fluffy Samoyeds out for a walk in Mongkok which caused heads to turn and camera phones to be whipped out.

These two Samoyeds definitely got a lot of attention from the street crowd

Got my nails done by the male manicurist who could design very well at 信和中心. Their gel nails and meticulous painting were so worth the money.

Hong Kong 2010 Day 6

Went fishing at the fishing ground we went to last year - 鴨仔坑釣魚場. Tucked away in a remote corner of Yuen Long, it took us nearly 1.5 hours and many transfers on the MTR to get there.

Slug in action

By nightfall, Slug landed two large fishes. We released them back in the end. Apparently, there are additional charges should you want to bring the fishes here back home for your dinner table.

Hong Kong 2010 Day 5

Spent the day just walking around and shopping in Central, Wan Chai and Causeway Bay, and indulging in simple but tasty cha chan teng fare.

Rice with meatloaf topped with salted egg yolk, accompanied by double-boiled soup

Rice with pork stir-fried in garlic, chilli and spices

7-11 introduced this limited edition collectible from Sanrio, but they would only launch it on the day we were to leave Hong Kong. Damn. It looked so pretty.

Hong Kong 2010 Day 4

Decided to go for a little offshore fishing (in Slug's interests, or else I would be dragging a whining burden when I went shopping). Had breakfast before making our way to Sai Kung.

Typical Hong Kong breakfast

Take green minibus 1A outside Choi Hung MTR station to Sai Kung

Sai Kung was a slow-paced and relaxed seaside town on a sunny Wednesday morning. As Slug and I were browsing the shops selling fishing equipment, we noticed a suspicious old lady spying on us. As soon as we exited the shop, she approached us and offered to take us out to sea to fish for the whole afternoon for about HKD350. We went along with her.

Coastal erosion

Spent the next few hours on the gently-rocking boat napping while Slug fished.

Fishing with hand reel

Some hilly islets off Sai Kung

Some of the small fishes Slug caught

Slug was increasingly bored because he wanted to land some really large fishes and was resenting the old lady for not bringing us further out to sea where the large catch was. I was rather impressed with the old lady's very simple diet - she cooked porridge on board and boiled cabbage in hot water - and that was her lunch.

The old lady fishing as well

I decided to try my hand at fishing too.

More fishes

Spotted groupers and other fishes

They were too small to be eaten, so we set them all free.

Slug complained about how unexciting this fishing trip was, but I was just contented enough to spend a lazy afternoon like that.
