Hong Kong & Macau 2008 Day 5

Decided to go to Stanley for a walk. Walked towards Wan Chai to catch the bus to Stanley, and on the way walked through the market streets in the Wan Chai area. I was really disturbed when we passed by a store selling pork, and there was a trash bucket outside brimming with discarded body parts like some innards, eyes and bones. And then I saw a brown hairy ear and tail amongst the bloody mess. OMG. Don't tell me they were slaughtering dogs. I was so freaked out I could not even take a picture of it.

We stopped for lunch at a sushi restaurant of a hotel, enticed by its cheap sushi buffet. The variety was quite disappointing though, so I just gorged on many of the egg mayo sushi and ebi roe sushi that I liked. And just when we were full and about to leave, the conveyor belt started to roll out my favourite octopus sushi. DAMN!

Mantis shrimp sushi (yucks, now they looked like huge fat silverfishes)

After lunch we took Bus #6 to Stanley, which was one cool ride because it kept ascending up the sloping roads and then passing by the luxurious apartments along Clear Water Bay Road.

Towards Stanley Market

We browsed through the shops in Stanley Market, but were not very attracted because the things sold there were quite touristy and expensive, like T-shirts to souvenirs to toys. We walked on to the waterfront promenade instead and took in the sights of the glittering blue sea.

Other than enjoying a mega Haagen Dazs ice-cream, there was not anything much over at Stanley. There was a young angmoh girl who pleaded with us to spare her HKD5, as she was lost and wanted to take a cab home. Giving her the benefit of the doubt, we gave her some change, and a while later, we saw her and another accomplice pulling the same trick on other unsuspecting people!

We walked over to Stanley Beach, which was crowded and unimpressive.

We decided to go back after a while, so we boarded a bus bound for Tsim Sha Tsui. From there, we visited an Anna Sui boutique, Ap Liu Street again because Slug was considering buying a projector (luckily there was a Pie & Tart Specialist shop at Sham Shui Po MTR station!) and to Mongkok for dinner and some night shopping.

We had supper at one fancy Chinese restaurant in Mongkok. However, we were displeased with the lousy service, the poor attitude of the servers and the average but expensive dimsum.

I love beancurd skin rolls!

We returned to Causeway Bay and had ample time for some quality browsing of the DVDs there. Bought mostly banned films including The Hills Have Eyes II and Harold and Kumar II, and were pleased with our loot. Returned back for a good night's rest.
