Night Out with Bong and Mo

Met Bong and Mo for a girls' night out! Initially intended to chill out at Boat Quay (in a weak attempt to revive last Sat), but Bong somehow managed to convinced Mo to go to our fave haunt instead. Yeah!

My lovely babies

The gruelling walk from Boat Quay to dbl 0 sure made Bong and I nostalgic. After Bong had dinner at Liang Court, we walked leisurely to dbl 0. Talked to a pleasant blonde from NZ who is here on an army exchange programme.

Had vodka lime which was overwhelmingly saccharine, made me and Mo cringe like mad. Two little sweeties wearing cute cheerleading outfits and straight-cut orange bobs hopped along and persuaded us to buy some testtube crap from them, and amusing us with a puzzle box. A buaya interrupted and asked one of them if their hair was real, and though it was such a lame question, Mo and I could not help but tug at their wigs to get the answer (and they didn't mind, how sweet)!

Hit the crowded dancefloor as soon as the good retro songs came. Horrors of all horrors, some stranger actually recognised me to be from AHS, and Mo and I haven't the faintest idea this person existed during our seondary school years. She was one year my senior and could not be affiliated to me in any way (not even ECA), yet she recognised me because she thinks I still look the same after all these years. Must be my dammit hairstyle again.

Bong was the star of the night, just because she thinks her outfit wasn't "corny". There went the Stripes and his attitude problem, D and his perverse ways, X and his non-existent guts, and an over-zealous and persistent one which was pretty much a pain in the ass.

The music was good, with the familiar R&B numbers, and the DJ was nice enough to throw in a few old-school techno tracks (yoohoo!). At about 3am, we were so exhausted and were about to step out of the dancefloor when Sean Paul's 'Get Busy' pulled us back in to boogie again! We just CANNOT miss this track!

What a great way to end the night.

Lovely testimonial from Baby

I cannot believe Baby still surfs Friendster. I have already left my account to collect dust and termites, and there she is reminding me to go and log in.

But she left a sweet testimonial for me, with 'compliments' like "overaged ah lian", "alcoholic" and "can dance to both techno and bhangra". Best of all, it starts off with that alienese one-liner that reminds me of her nonsensical alienese 6 a.m. SMSes. And she has to remind me of the "sickening" things that I did in the middle of the exams, but too bad, now that we have graduated, she won't be seeing that "sickening" habit of mine ever again!

Baby, I miss you so much! Don't forget our debt-collection this coming Monday.

Lunch with Necks and Mo

Had lunch with Necks and Morks at Xin Wang, a Hong Kong styled cafe at Marina Square.

Me and lovely Morks

Morks and Necks and their deliberate fake smiles

I tried to fake mine but guess Necks is the expert is this

Sigh, another day of good ol' fun fooling around.

Mother's Day Dinner

Was jolted awake freaking early in the morning. Found out that Bong and I have this problem of waking up ridiculously early the next day after a hard night of alcohol-bingeing. But think it is more of an universal problem.

As we laid there reluctant to get out of bed, we exchanged one common sentiment: we want to relive last night again. If I can experience it again, I swear I would not drink so much. I swear I would keep a clear mind and savour the fun (Bong, you know what I mean!). Sigh.

Wanted to continue sleeping when I reached home, but I had visitors! First Aunt, Ah Gim and her two kids, and the maid came over for lunch with us. The two boys, Brendon and Jadon, were sooooooo cute! Being typical 5 and 3-year-old toddlers, they were hyperactive, noisy and derived fun from almost anything. And they have the ability to shriek happily for twenty minutes non-stop. These two tiny cutsies looked so adorable squeezed into our rocking chair, rocking and gurgling happily. First Aunt was in her usual Sound Machine mode. She even entrusted me with the task of feeding Jadon porridge, which left me stumped for a while. I had to use cookies as a bait to make him open his mouth, but the porridge would just dribble out of his mouth slowly. Eww. I am a klutz with kids.

When they were gone, it was peace time. Then in the evening, went to the neighbourhood coffeeshop with my family to meet Ah Ma and Third Aunt and family for Mother's Day dinner. We had a yummy eight-course tze char meal! Wee and I took pictures, but she was protesting that she looked fargly in this picture warned me not to post it. I am ignoring her protests.

Me and Wee

Stupid Wee was bullying me throughout the dinner and we ended up fighting (playfully lah) towards the end. Our parents were shaking their heads in disapproval when the two of us were chasing each other all around the block. Eventually we were so exhausted and panting so hard that we gave up our fight. Cannot believe we two like 长不大. Also, Wee totally has NO compassion for the elderly, tsk tsk. May she burn in hell. (Keke)

Bong, you gotta make IT happen okay! I love you!

One Great Night

Went Sunlight KTV in the afternoon with Bong, Mo, FL and QY. There went the Jacky Cheung, Wu Bai and JJ Lin favourites, as well as my Cantonese favourites! Bong the KTV tyrant, as usual, was hogging the mike and cutting the song queue. She totally humiliated me when she kept digging my sweaty butt-crack (for gold) and shoving me to FL. Mo kept making that disgusting pseudo-BJ gesture with the mike. FL was singing with such power that our voices were all drowned by his and we began to doubt if his sore throat was for real. At one point of time through Wu Bai's 痛哭的人, FL stood up and started strumming on an imaginary guitar with a constipated expression while singing. QY was so quiet and didn't dare to sing much.

Me and my babies

Bong and me outside Heeren

After that, Mo left and we went for dinner. WD joined us after that and we took a gruelling walk from Heeren to Boat Quay. Bong and I nearly got dehydrated. Only FL was super hyper and dancing to himself. Baby, if you hadn't blackmailed me with that document, I wouldn't have gone through this shit with you (but I never regretted and you know why!). And stop swooning over the piggyback thing, it sounds too nice and makes me envious!

After many misleading "要到了" from FL, we finally reached the back roads of Boat Quay. The three of them quickly sought comfort in the cooling Eskibar, and I was amused by QY emitting misty breath. Unfortunately it was packed and we settled at one lonely KTV pub a few doors down. Left after a few drinks to another KTV pub. There were Mando and Canto pop there! We (except Bong) played dai dee and xi kee, and losers drank. Damm fun! Poor WD was protesting because he had to work tomorrow. After a few drinks, QY wasn't as shy and quiet as we thought, keke! FL dedicated a few songs and I just HAD to sing along (we even snatched and sang 死性不改 dedicated by other tables)! Towards the end, my head was so heavy that I could vaguely remember what was going on (except for WD singing something *awww*).

Bong did something sweet before me and her left them, don't think she will ever ever forget that. Then I went over her house to stay. I was so groggy that I mistook hair conditioner for shampoo and washed my hair with that. Before sleeping, we were reminiscing fondly about the fun night and its various components.

Baby, I will never forget about tonight. Ever. Never ever. Never ever ever.

Shopping with Bong

Went Orchard with Bong to shop for corporate clothes. When crazy Bong saw me, she bursted into a fit of giggles and I was so irritated that I snatched over her ice-cream and gobbled it up. Yeck, mint choco chip sucks.

We shopped at Far East and I met Twinkle, a friend that I have not seen in three years!!! A fellow Ah Lian whom I fondly remember for her JPG haversack. Gotta catch up with her one day.

Bong was so delighted when she bought a chunky brown tribal necklace that I wouldn't want to be caught dead wearing. I was just as delighted when I bought a chunky blue beady bracelet that she wouldn't want to be caught dead wearing.

Lovely Bong and her prized necklace

Then we roamed around the Orchard shopping belt trying on clothes, and bemoaning the fact that we have to start stocking up on our corporate wardrobe and chucking away relics of our teenage years. Goodbye girly miniskirts. Goodbye m)phosis slippers. Goodbye sequinned bras.

At the end of the day, our legs were so sore but we were oh-so-happy with what we bagged. I bought a long-sleeved black formal shirt, a pair of white jeans (Bong thinks they can double up as office wear) and a pleated Victorian miniskirt (okay, I side-tracked). Yeah!

Lunch with Necks

Had lunch with Necks at Pizza Place at JP, our favourite haunt, but the branch at Raffles City closed down le! What a pity! Poor Necks came all the way from Tampines to Boon Lay, but what made me narrow my eyes at him was that he actually could stand the 2 hour journey on bus 30 just because he had bus concession. Served him right when he complained of the giddiness and his lateness.

We had a great time chatting about the good ol' times back in AHS. Our looney behaviour (together with Mo) back then created all those unforgettable memories that somehow we will never fail to mention whenever we meet and will always have a good laugh out of it. The three of us just had to do stupid things to annoy others like the ice rifle, flicking bus tickets at unsuspecting passers-by (Necks, DON'T deny this, you were the mastermind), the unpleasant G.R.O.J. saga, the tacky made-in-China 'I Love Australia' koala bears he always got for us whenever he went there with the school choir etc etc. Sigh, those were the days.

We even went to the library where he pushed his recommended read to me. We had a stupid mini spelling bee test where we stumped each other with words like 'manageable', 'schizophrenic', 'diarrhoea', 'entrepreneurial' etc. I hate him and his rich vocabulary bank.

Some little philosophies

Had a two hour long phone conversation with Bong, and it is always entertaining albeit crappy. I am particularly inspired to pen down what we have talked about today because being a typical bimbo who doesn’t really like to think that much, this will be my first time delivering some of our musings. Hope it doesn’t sound like some General Paper essay.

1) This world operates on looks. To hell with crap like “inner beauty is more important” and “brains over brawn / boobs” and the laleedas. We have seen so many examples to be convinced that our pockmarks, thunder thighs etc will put us at a disadvantage in this society (maybe Bong will do better than me). It is unfair that people with benevolent natures and good characters get condemned because of an exterior that does not live up to everyone’s expectations. Especially for E and WK, we are genuinely sympathetic but we cannot do much. Bad girls don’t finish last, pretty girls do.

2) This world will do so much better without social inequalities. I realized that a university education only serves to distance myself from the people around me. Back in secondary school, who cares if you have friends from the Normal stream? I don’t, because most of the times these people make better companions than those snooty aristocrats and scholars. Despite their not-so-competent academic performance and bad influence, they are much more fun, they are street-smart and they stand up for you.

As I progressed further up the education ladder, I started to lose such friends; and even as for the remaining ones, I realized a growing distance between them and me as we really communicate on different planes. We lead such unequal lives anyway. When we call our ‘same-level’ friends and ask what they are doing, we get tortured moans of “FYP” or “tests”. When we call those who do not have academic obligations like us, they can be “inside 大头 (accompanied by sounds of drums and cymbals)” or “just finished fighting”. D can call me in the middle of the night to tell me he has been slashed. S is always dragging drunken friends home and helping bail out a friend who likes to spit at policemen. And all the interesting and dark stories on gambling, drugs, loansharks, clashes, prostitution etc. I cannot imagine myself in this kind of life. I can only picture myself, holding the dammit degree cert and become a hamster in the wheel, slog in the office until death. As the saying goes, 同人不同命 .

I cannot understand why many people look at such people with tinted glasses. Be it looking for jobs, social status and achievement, and even dating, social bias always disparage them. Does education level determine one’s capability, one’s integrity, one’s achievement and fulfillment in life? Does there have to be a stark differentiation between an accomplished high-flier and a disgruntled menial worker in terms of social image and the public’s perceptions towards them? Why does a relationship between a university graduate and an N level cert holder make many shake their heads?

3) This world is full of strange twists in fate. I reminded Bong of the movie ‘Sliding Doors’ starring Gwyneth Paltrow, which shows how a simple action like missing the train can cause a major turning point in life. Bong supported me with a story of an air stewardess whose menses cramps prevented her from going to work and inadvertently escaped a plane crash. Yeah, yeah, life is full of surprises. Maybe I will surprise my parents one day by being a bei pio soh (and sit at the kopitiam all day long, gossip, smoke like a chimney, and tame my coiffure with my trademark pointed comb).

4) We are clueless about our futures. We fear that we will not have enough friends to fill up the tables at our wedding banquets. I don’t even dare to dream of a Vera Wang gown, a Sentosa Cove, and a honeymoon to Alaska, in case I get left on the shelf.

5) There is no distinct line between love and lust. Leaves me wondering for a long time what I really am looking for.

Watching SuperBand Performance

Went to watch SuperBand live performance at Mediacorp with Sluggie and his friends. They went there to support their friend in Lucify, and I went there to support Baby's honey in Soul with his horrendous perm, keke.

I was enjoying every minute of the show because every band performance was nice! Especially the rendition of Huo Yuan Jia by Qi-no-be, nearly killed me. Saw the guitarist from Jing Bao Yue Tuan at the toilet, I nearly melted because he was so handsome and he has a very very piercing gaze. Watching it live is definitely better than watching it on TV.

Baby, you wanna go watch? Think Sluggie and Co. getting tickets again.

Night Out with Baby and Milo

Today is voting day, yeah, PAP still maintains control over Aljunied! Too bad Baby, I just cannot vote for the Hammer.

Went with Baby and Milo to Blk 85 for a drink and to watch the polling results. Don't know why the Tiger was 40 cents cheaper than usual, Baby says because everyone was in a celebratory mood. Milo was nice to keep the oysters in the orh rua away from a disgusted me, and I fell in love with the bak chor mee Baby was eating.

Then went on to Bedok Mac to use the toilet and then snacked.

Then Milo took us for a ride through Changi Village for tranny sightings, and then to the Loyang Tua Pek Kong temple to pray. Hope everything goes well for me in the next few months.
