Phuket 2007 Day 4

Had the same breakfast AGAIN before checking out of Patong Villa early at 10am. Before we left, we took some pictures in the hotel compound.

We then headed to the Baumanburi, where we would stay for the next (and last) 2 nights. I sort of regretted booking a room at this hotel, because this hotel is freaking far from both the beach and Bangla Road. But when we checked into our room, we got a sweet surprise.

We booked the poolside access room and indeed, the pool is right at our balcony! The décor of the room is pleasing and the lighting sets the right atmosphere. No regrets now!

Upon entering the room ...

Extra bed by the window!

The bathroom has a window so you can watch TV while soaking in the tub!

Pool right at our feet!

After that, we headed to Ocean Shopping Centre to have lunch at Suan Suki, a steamboat restaurant. We had some simple lunch of roast duck noodles and crab fried rice, before moving on to the Pizza Company to snack on their tasty chicken wings!

Then it was off to the beach for some quality sloth time under the sun! We rented two beach chairs and an umbrella and proceeded to lie there and relax till the sun set.

At the beach!

He had some short-lived fun looking at girls before I pulled his ears

Some Starbucks guy came along and gave me a sample cup of latte

This parasailing guy nearly hit our umbrella when he was landing

We made another Thai friend who also remembered us because he gave Slug a bag of seashells a year ago. He is Zhou, one of the beach chair vendors there. As we chatted, we found that he is a jovial and happy-go-lucky fellow, and I am sure his job must have attributed to much of his personality. Being in charge of the beach chairs, jet skis and speedboats, waiting for customers to rent from him, meeting and chatting with different people everyday, getting to relax at the beach and watching the sun set, no sales targets, no deadlines, no OT … I would want a job like that!

So we just laid there, looking at topless sunbathers, enjoying the sea breeze, abandoning all thoughts and troubles from our minds, gazing at the sparking sea, observing everyone busy with their own activities, and carrying nothing in our hearts but a desire to relax and a genuine intention to be friendly and partake in any interaction with both the Thais and the farangs.

Sweeping the sand off my chair

One of the beach chair vendors burying a stray dog in the sand

And it did not seem to mind! ... Zzzz ...

I tried to do the same to another stray dog ...

The glorious evening sun

The sun had finally set ...

As evening came, the sun slowly dipped behind the hills and the beach chair vendors started to take back the chairs. We packed up and walked all the way back to our hotel to wash up. And then it was a long walk to the Soi Bangla area to have dinner at PS hotel. We ordered kang kong (the Thais call it morning glory) fried in chilli paste, squid fried with garlic and pepper (we just had to eat it again!) and minced pork fried with chilli and basil leaves.

After dinner, we played some rounds of pool before returning to our room for cable TV and an early night’s rest.
