Phuket Day 1 (1)

Went to the airport and spent the night there with Sluggie to await our early morning flight at 7am. Tried to sleep at the lounge where one can view the aeroplanes taking off, but the seats were too uncomfortable and there was a group of BLACK society people singing ‘We are Singapore’ and reciting the pledge. Freaking irritating. Started putting our camera into good use.

Checking in early at 5am

After check-in, went to look around the DFS shops before boarding the plane. Saw a Japanese businessman spraying himself with every tester perfume he could lay his hands on. An angmoh walked past and saw it and gasped “Jesus Christ” in disgust. He signaled us to look at him (which we already did) and the three of us smirked in unison. He probably had much reason to be disgusted, because firstly, he was spraying the perfume all into his hair, and secondly after basking in the plethora of fragrances, he proceeded to try out every tester face cream he could lay his hands on. He probably left his toiletries at home.

Finally on the flight and off we go!

We reached Phuket Airport at about 7.45am (their time) and Sluggie was angry. He had packed a big bag of Lay's potato chips into his check-in luggage, and when we collected the luggage, the bag of chips was gone. Don't know why, perhaps it had been confiscated.

We took a minibus to our hotel, Patong Villa Hotel at Patong Beach. We went up and down steep slopes and the driver was going at a speed of 120kmph. The traffic was scary. Lane-cutting without signaling was rife. After the ordeal, the minibus dropped us off at our hotel. It is quite a nice hotel, and very convenient in location (just by the sea).

After a short nap, we walked around the streets and had lunch at a restaurant at Bangla Road called Thai Thai. Food was cheap! We ordered prawn wonton noodles and char siew noodles and black pepper fish. The fish was damm good, crispy on the outside and fresh and tender fish meat on the inside.

After lunch, we walked around the streets lined with shops selling beachwear, souvenirs and pirated DVDs. Saw many angmohs walking around topless (for guys) or in bikinis (for gals). What an eye-opener.
